goaltendercold as shit even though it's almost may... haven't we suffered enough.
i do think it says a lot about wyatt that despite robo being my favorite player, despite all the records the stars have broken this year and robo hitting 100 points and roope being a playoff standout and miro being miro and the resurgence of so many stars players etc., that wyatt is still my personal favorite storyline of the season. i just love good developmental stories but i really do think wyatt's game is so impressive—we can talk about how he's revitalized benn and how that line plays together but it feels like to me that he's literally a triangulation of all of top line's best qualities. like i can't get over how unfazed he's been in round 1 so far and imo also our best forward after roope through the first two games. the chances he can generate, and in increasingly diverse/creative ways, are so so impressive for a 19 year old playing in his very first nhl playoff round. i know dimfil and sean talked about robo not being able to properly emotionally compartmentalize in the aftermath of pavs's injury which is a devastating point on its own but i also think 1) a lot of robo's game doesn't *naturally* translate to the style of playoff hockey the wild have forced onto the stars and 2) he's the type of guy who needs to build into his confidence in the playoffs and he hasn't really reached that gear yet; the thing about robo "input-output processing" is that he actually does get caught up in his shot volume/Shoot-first decision paralysis cold streak mentality than he really likes to let on but that's for another time. he was much more present in game 2 so i do expect him to get better but again i think wyatt just has this Automatic Consistency that i love witnessing so much. like we can talk about the natural progression of his physicality and how it'll contribute to his effectiveness and durability over time but what does it say that he's already an effective (essentially) 2C at 19 off a single post-covid d+1 season of junior hockey? it makes sooo much sense that he models himself after marner lol which Maybe marner embodies qualities of roope and robo (help) but just watching how effectively he blends his forechecking style with good defensive mindedness, being able to recover the puck and win battles easily with smart stick positioning—even if he doesn't have the raw speed roope does he still has clean zone exits, is a dangerous net-front presence through pavs's influence (his finishing chart this season is literally just an Extended Area version of pavs's because he mixes in wristers from the outer slot with his tips whereas robo is Pure wrister action and pp slapshots from the top of the right circle) while having the same high-level read/vision robo does... i just feel like he has sooo much upside. and to think we'll have stanks cooking on his line soon! i'm earnestly wj53 fan ):
ngl it's kind of funny that domi and marchment instantly doubled the number of brunette wags on the stars because there were only 3 before lol (robo pavs hak). also i quite like the stars wag jackets i think they're better than last year's... no offense to last year's designer though because she's the artist who made the caps cherry blossom warmup jersey and i really like her work in general i just wasn't crazy about the sleeve typeface. SHE ALSO MADE THE DEVS ONES THIS YEAR AND I DON'T LIKE THEM THAT MUCH EITHER... i think i'm just picky about fonts
i've also been thinking so much about how much pavs has shaped the genetic makeup of stars playstyle through his passive positive influence... like dimsean really dooo get it because i think about Tip Master joepavs expanding 1053 toolkit all the time and the way they break that down for the whatever 12 annoying ass nerdy pdo listeners is so special and real to me. tbh for whatever you want to say about sean starsfans are kind of spoiled that one of the more Stat-Oriented guys spent so long covering the stars because we get extra scrutiny/analysis from him and more dimension than you might get following another team. unrelated to absolutely anything i cannot stand michael russo
i am so stressed and nervous and insane all the time LMFAO i can't even talk about it. god.
also i cannot stop thinking about goalie robo ))): auuughhhh i want to write it. maybe i will. who knows. i literally can't write but i kind of want to just dump some rough attempt at the qh43 fic i drafted literally a year ago to get the gears turning... also life is keeping me busy so i don't even really know why i care about this. but canon divergence robofic is everything TO ME.
been thinking about a lot of things lately T_T hope everyone is holding up okay. some things hit too close to home and while there's no point getting into it i am forever grateful for the people around me who have shown me thoughtfulness and care over all these years. love you all.

Date: 2023-04-21 08:51 pm (UTC)robo's weaknesses are like... even my worst is above league average so no one talks about it but you can tell he feels the effects of his underperformance strongly. i really do think last year was crucial in letting him get acclimated to playoff hockey and i'm not surprised game 1 this year threw him off but i hope he hits his stride a bit more throughout the rest of the series
TBH i have no clue if what i'm talking about makes any sense but wyatt is just so fun to watch per pure eye test so :') i really am so so excited for him next year LOL. regardless of the threat of a sophomore slump i can't wait
goalie robo is sooooo... i've been rotating the concept of like a soulbond-y/psychic thing in my head and how like Opposing Goalies basically never have prolonged contact with each other because they occupy the two most isolated points on the map so basically 2129 slowly converging together from childhood to being opposing frozen four goalies to ending up in dallas's farm system together off a dlevi esque garbage trade or something like that t__t and exploring what that psychic connection would look like when they have SUCH vastly different playing styles / robo isn't athletic in the same way otter is or something like that. ANYWAY i have to think about it some more

Date: 2023-04-23 11:20 am (UTC)oh my gad goalie robo w psychicisms worldbuilding is so facking good.... i loveee the like... slowly orbiting each other closer and closer over the years too, even just with geographic proximity. and also the q of how a psychic bond comes into being for a goalie pair... the most separate when on opposing teams but then sharing a designated space the most intimately when on the same team. Its Good
