the thing about robohintz is that if you ask roope a very open-ended question he is capable of bringing up robo unsolicited and waxing (relative) poetic about him but if you include details about robo IN the question his brain will compute that as "okay nice we've already established the facts so i don't have to elaborate on them more" and he'll conclude with generic insipid hockeyisms instead -_- girl......
anyway the few hours between Timo2Jersey getting confirmed and the actual trade details trickling out were so much for no reason but IT FINALLY HAPPENED! all i needed to do was write a dumb little dreamwidth post i guess

now that the rags seem to be putting everything into motion i do feel some relief but it also makes me wonder whether to even expect anything...

i also think there's an added dimension of intrigue when it's specifically a canadian market subject to media attention around the trade deadline and there are a number of players the team would like to flip and so many fans that WANT the team to get rid of these players but it's also like Damn who even wants them at their current value.............
before we get to timo the gury trade is killing meeeeeeeeee why is this so... i was literally like "what team is going to want montreal's flop depth pieces" and then it ended up being dallas lmfao. it is an objectively low-risk and extremely lateral move though and the retention on dad's behalf is a nice touch so the trade itself is fine to me and the value overall seems acceptable. i do think people misunderstand what exactly msl offers as a coach because dach's progression as a 22 y/o 3oa pick really isn't anything completely unbelievable or outside the realm of usual developmental possibility and like cole caufield... is cole caufield. (or i guess the idea is like, if a guy is underperforming presumably because a specific system/environment is restricting him but a "new" approach helps him thrive and break out, are we evaluating this as an improvement introduced by the new approach specifically or simply more as the harm-reduction value of escaping the prior system? and i think that gets muddled a lot when it comes to young player development and finding potential "ceilings"... i don't know.) so like there's a lot of room for discourse on gury as potential reclamation project and i do obviously wish the best for him and will be interested to see how he fits into montreal's tragicomedic laval-brand forward group but..... hmmm. in the end it's again a very lateral move that seems to benefit both sides for mostly subtle/hypothetical "team-fit" cultural reasons, with most of the value for dallas coming in the form of a tiny bit of cap relief, and i will truly Lol if this ends up being the biggest move jnill makes by the deadline because of how hilariously on-brand it would be.
it annoyed me that people used to genuinely offer up johnny/stanks in so many mock trades in the same way people flirted with these nonsensical hughes/nemec/mercer trades (MORE ON THIS LATER) that completely misunderstood i guess the cap situation and market and contractual makeup of the league right now and also overestimated meier's worth and the magnitude of leverage selling teams currently have. i mean these things DO happen illogically but within any capacity of rational expectation it's just... be fr please. don't come back to me if the devils do something stupid though that's not on me
i still have no clue what the value is going to look like or whether it'll even get done atp but i've always been partial to the 1st/holtz/zetterlund route. alas... we shall see.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL because they didn't even have to give up holtz or another roster piece 😭 it's one of those things where you can't be like yeah x win this by a mile when none of these pieces have even been activated yet and also there's the big question mark of whether they'll manage to extend timo (btw jack's artificial cap ceiling is kind of like... these things are a reflection of the salary cap era at large because every team is pushing right up against the cap so obviously they have to be stingy about any big piece but the fact that jack is SUCH a good cost-controlled asset because he followed the young-player "betting on yourself" team-friendly boldy model of cashing in early and is now arguably the biggest non-elc steal in the entire league again feels like... a reflection of player/agent *culture* today and the lack of lateral autonomy afforded of rfas and which kinds of players are facilitated to "give up" potential earnings for the security of an early/long-term contract, and the thought of management wanting to use him as a benchmark in signing meier when he's a HUGE statistical anomaly is definitely interesting. idk) but anyway i still think the return looks very favorable for nj atm and obviously it's a huge piece that fans have been vying for aggressively for a while now. i do expect tm96 to be paired with jack but at the least i hope to see swiss connection cook on pp1 🙏 not to have overly high expectations or anything. but also a part of me wants to be optimistic and have hope that things will be fun for once!

LET'S TALK ABOUT SABRES GOATHEAD MASTERCLASS TODAY!!! jack quinn (poorly) fighting nak of all people and stepping up big with tuch out + dcozens first nhl hatty + op logging monster minutes in ras's absence LFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. it's crazy that op is legitimately deserving of so much more calder buzz and has been a consistently effective and reliable presence in his rookie season and that his offensive output so far is just the very very tip of the iceberg and not even representative of what kind of defenseman he can become with a bit more seasoning/top-level defensive experience and some summer training 🙃 i do love when people talk about how he processes the game like an ai because it just reminds me of how people talk about robo............. when your nickname is Robot Emoji and not only players on your team but specifically your fellow star players call you "automatic" and say "he's like a computer" and you possess the dry factual linguistic cadence of a wikipedia article 😩 never change. anyway the sabres are so ridiculous but it's fun...

Date: 2023-02-28 01:10 am (UTC)guri trade is basically like well that's certainly a transaction that occured. ia with you on sentiment although i do also wonder if dadanov being a deboer vet will be helpful in any way shape or form? basically there's no way for there to be a downside which is fine but as you say that kind of safe betting isn't exactly cup run material. if guri reclamation works with the habs or even if he just seems like he's having a fun time there it'll be a massive relief coz there is truly something so gutwrenching about having all the tools and not being able to put it together.... hfboards voice Im addicted to wondering if we can fix his brain
i keep thinking about your team media post even though i didnt comment LOL its so true that sabres PR is doing suchhhh a good job. it's pretty easy when your cast is mostly ex-fandom darlings (skinner) and talented fresh faces (dahlin power etc) or some VERY good narratives and fun highlight reels (TAGE...). but even thinking about how dragged out and toxic the eichel situation was, it's crazy how quickly things have turned around and how good they've been at a vibes reset for the casual tumblr viewer (me). and even like, putting in the efforts to keep a record and create clips etc of the team as it's still in the process of resetting is huge too bc it means that if they ever have playoffs success there's an archive for interested people to look back at and learn the team. i dont know how material the benefits are for a team that has good collateral material like that bc its not like online fandom really translates THAT well to season tickets or w/e but I Respect It Anyway

Date: 2023-03-02 10:41 am (UTC)and yes totally agree re: guri! pdb veteran experience is partially what i meant wrt the ~culture fit~ for dadonov so it'll be interesting to see how things unfold over the next few games as they acclimate to new lineups..... lol i watched the latest habs win vs. the sharks where he was on suzuki's wing and he was ALL over that game but tbf what kind of player doesn't have a big showing immediately after they get traded... it kills me that montreal is so decimated he can get slotted into the top line like it's nothing but i do hope he figures it out.

ig it's less about jskinner looking old (bc tbh i think he looks exactly the same lol) but the team role moreso... coz he can't exactly still be the twinkrookie outsider figure when he's objectively the stable vet presence oldhead now. like they seem like a fun bunch but the Archetypes aren't super evident or haven't been generated by tumblr yet? i feel like tage and linemates could be a thing that takes off at least a bit but it really is just reliant on someone breaking the seal isn't it and getting some Dynamics laid down.
