my favorite r/hockey reddit comments are always just from dudes anecdocting about their beer leagues LMFAO. but yeah for sure i think people downplay the level and type of physicality male athletes engage in because it goes against their efforts to ~humanize~ them which on the journalistic side often carries a specific voice like Oh so-and-so loves to read and Cale Makar loves to shop at Costco etc. which i DO enjoy and find valuable but is... you know. though actually it's kind of fun because i do think the accessibility fandom now has to players is kind of blurring the lines between media perception and fandom perception in the sense that like, media used to be responsible for both the [painting an image of a player's on-ice character and accountability] and [humanizing a player's off-ice interests and personal life, background] sides of things but now you'll just have a teenage girl who runs their tiktok page accosting them outside the locker room and getting all the hard hitting #PuckPersonality So what's your favorite halloween candy content in very digestible bite-size form for the audiences.

i do think... i think that hrpf fandom is always oriented to consuming content and "lore" through an aggregative lens, of how does knowing this about a person further a Narrative and how does this Narrative inform my attachment to this person. reddit/"regular" fandom is a bit more straightforward and constructs narratives very unintentionally, so although they still have them it doesn't really come with the understanding that that's what they're doing. but tbh i do not have a sense of nux tumblr fandom at ALL anymore because it's essentially dead and dying when epbb aren't doing anything off the ice
